Description

Summary

We offer Big Box Blend as an equivalent, comparable product to what is offered at big box retail stores to prove to you our price competitiveness. This blend is equivalent to Scott’s, CIL, Great Value (Walmart), Garden Club (Canadian Tire), Vigoro (Home Depot) etc. It contains annual ryegrass and contains no certified seeds (which means it contains only generic seeds). Annual ryegrass is an annual variety of desirable grass. This means it will die over winter. It is also very fragile to summer heat/drought stress. However, it germinates extremely quickly. It contains a balance of all 3 major seed types, but is better for sun than shade given the small amount of fescue.

Composition

  • 20% Kentucky Blue Grass
  • 10% Creeping Red Fescue
  • 50% Perennial Ryegrass
  • 20% Annual Ryegrass
  • ~14 million KBG seeds in this bag
  • ~2.38 million CRF seeds in this bag
  • ~6 million PR seeds in this bag
  • ~2.4 million AR seeds in this bag

NO coating, 100% seed in the bag

Creeping Red Fescue: Prefers deep, well drained soil but performs fine in low fertility soil, very shade and traffic tolerant, overall low maintenance, germinates moderately (10-20 days if wet, warm means faster, cold means slower)

Kentucky Blue Grass: Grows very well in sun, can’t tolerate shade, will grow in wet clay better than other grass types, germinates slowly (20 – 25 days if wet, warmer means faster, colder means slower), perennial seed means it lives for decades if you keep it healthy

Perennial Ryegrass: Grows well in sun and partial shade and all soil types of varying fertility, germinates quickly (7-12 days if wet, warmer means faster, colder means slower).

Annual Ryegrass: Super fast germinating annual variety of ryegrass. Germinates in 4-7 days (warmer = faster, colder = slower). Dies over winter and is fragile to summer drought/heat stress. Not as dark green as most lawn grasses and slightly wide-bladed. Good for using as a cover crop to quickly occupy bare soil so that less weeds can take advantage of an open area. Can grow in all soil types of varying fertility. Only slightly shade tolerant.
